According to projections of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI), based on the current growth rate, national quinoa production will exceed 300 thousand tons per year by 2020. Thus, 46 thousand hectares of land would be used in addition to the existing ones.

According to the harvest intentions survey for the 2019-2020 agricultural campaign, it has projected more than 38000 hectares, reported the Regional direction of agriculture in Puno.

At the moment, the Altiplano region has managed to export 94,062.05 tons of organic quinoa. With China being a potential market with 1,300 million consumers, this has allowed Ayacucho farmers to bet on the cultivation of quinoa.

Agricultural engineer Adrian Poblete, CEO of  Quinoa Andina company, believes that countries should focus on relaunching quinoa as a strategic product that generates decent employment in rural areas and in turn take advantage of the high nutritional value for children suffering from malnutrition.
